The REAL Moral Crisis in America
Imagine, if you will, a place in which one segment of the population hates another simply because of their house, car, or paycheck. Imagine that this petty point of view permeated society to the point that the rhetoric was taught in schools, broadcast as heroism in the media, and generally accepted by the masses. Imagine a culture so full of hatred and jealousy that when a man’s property is stolen, the police ignore his plight because “he can afford to lose it.”
This place is our world.
But I’d like to speak specifically of the United States of America.
There is a moral crisis in this country and it has nothing to do with gay marriage, premarital sex, teen pregnancy, or a rise in “atheism.” The moral crisis in this country cannot be measured, and statistics on it cannot be kept. The real moral crisis in this country is on a deeper, more visceral level. The real moral crisis in this country is a loss of respect. Respect for ourselves, our companions, our fellow countrymen.
In today’s society it is almost un-American if you don’t begrudge someone their successes. In this present culture it is nigh treasonous to say that the government shouldn’t play Robin Hood. The idea of individual responsibility is bigoted, ugly, uncivilized, and cynical.
There are a few who still respect and love their fellow man. There are a few who understand the importance of failure to the eventuality of success. There are a few who recall the purposes of government and there are a few who embrace the true nature of liberty and want that same blessing bestowed upon all men.
Sadly, those few are not in power. They are not popular. They are not “cool.” They are outcasts in their society and, with them, so has true freedom been outcast.
This is the Real Moral Crisis in The United States of America.
I urge you, please, respect your fellow man. Respect his property. Put aside your jealousy, your urge for what is so deceptively called “social injustice” through government action. Live your life, and let him live his. If equality is what you want, realize that all are equal in this right. The only other state in which equality exists for man is in servitude. Slavery.
So what will it be? Respect and liberty, or hatred and slavery? The choice is yours, but chose quickly. Our time is running short.
Life, liberty, and property do not exist because men have made laws. On the contrary, it was the fact that life, liberty, and property existed beforehand that caused men to make laws in the first place.
